Two-year summer course 2014/2015

From the very beginning Christians have traversed two worlds: their spirituality arises at the crossroads between Christian traditions and contemporary cultures. The relationship between Christian traditions and contemporary cultures in the context of spirituality can be theologically analysed from different points of view:

• The Bible and its reception
• Early Christian theology and literature (and in particular the Rule of St. Benedict) in which the roots of later spiritualities can be uncovered
• The particular mental horizons of the 21st century
• The concrete ritual forms spirituality can assume
• The comparison between the spirituality of different religions and denominations

Questions of this sort will be addressed in an academic programme offered at the Monastic Institute (Pontifical Benedictine University Sant’Anselmo, Rome), in cooperation with members of the following institutions: Faculty of Philosophy, Theology & Religious Studies of Radboud University Nijmegen (NL), Liturgical Institute of the Catholic University Leuven and Titus Brandsma Instituut (NL).

In all the modules the different dimensions of Christian spirituality, and in particular Benedictine spirituality, will be examined in relation to their cultural context and other cultures. This implies an interdisciplinary and hermeneutical study of traditional resources (historical) and contemporary forms of spiritual life (anthropological).

The programme will help to improve the understanding of historical and modern cultural challenges for Christian spirituality with regards to single persons and in the context of monastic and non-monastic communities.

The programme consists of 16 academic modules each worth 3 European Credits (EC). For each module 3 sessions (90 minutes each) are organized. Additionally, students study literature and write a paper on each module. At the end of the two-year Programme a thesis (30 pages/12 EC) will be written by the students who want to gain a Master (“First Level University Master Degree” / 60 EC) accredited by the University of Sant’Anselmo (Monastic Institute) in accordance with to Italian university law. A combination with other educational programmes is possible with personal advice from the coordinators.

The first part of the programme will be organized 7-19 July 2014 in Rome. The first week will be coordinated by Prof. Matthias Skeb OSB (Rome), the other by Prof. Thomas Quartier Obl.S.B. (Nijmegen/Leuven/Rome). In addition to the coordinators, Prof. Jean Ska SJ (Biblicum, Rome) will teach on “Culture and Biblical Spirituality”, Prof. Manuela Scheiba OSB (Sant’Anselmo) will teach on monastic sources (especially the Rule of Saint Benedict), and Prof. Inigo Bocken (Titus Brandsma Instituut, Nijmegen) will teach on concepts of spirituality today.

The courses will be taught in English. They require a student’s physical presence in the classroom of 4-5 lessons (45′) a day. On Saturday an optional visiting programme will be offered. Sundays are free.

The programme is aimed at members of monastic communities, oblates, professionals in religious or social areas, scholars, etc.

The courses will be open to participants who have a sufficient knowledge of English and who have the qualifications needed to guarantee the academic level of the programme. For the degree of Master of the Pontifical University Sant’Anselmo, a Bachelor’s degree is presupposed. Applicants are welcome from those who want to earn European Credits, as well as for personal formation.

€ 500,00 enrolment [1st year of the Master Programme].

’Ufficio Liturgico del Vicariato di Roma e il Pontificio Istituto Liturgico, nel cinquantesimo anniversario della promulgazione della costituzione conciliare Sacrosanctum Concilium, organizzano un corso monografico di approfondimento, che si svolgerà in due parti.
Quest’anno si affronteranno l’introduzione e il primo capitolo della costituzione, mentre i restanti numeri, dal 47 al 130, saranno presentati l’anno prossimo.
Le lezioni intendono fornire le chiavi di lettura per comprendere la novità e l’attualità della costituzione e per riscoprirne i principi teologici e pastorali.
Il corso è offerto come momento di aggiornamento per i sacerdoti e i seminaristi, i diaconi, i religiosi e le religiose, i catechisti e tutti i fedeli che svolgono un ministero liturgico e pastorale.

che si svolgerà nei giorni 9-16-23 gennaio 2014 dalle ore 15.30 alle ore 18.50 presso l’Aula XI del nostro Ateneo.

“Incarnazione, rivelazione e ragione sono i tre assi strutturanti del pensiero teologico.

L’identità cristiana radica nell’incarnazione di Dio. Partendo da questo paradosso configurante del pensiero cristiano, attraverso la considerazione della rivelazione e le sue interpretazioni nell’ultimo secolo, si approderà a pensare la teologia in se in quanto riflessione alla luce della ragione contemporanea.

Pensiero e ragione teologica configurano lo sfondo di queste tre serate di studio aperte al dibattito e l’interazione con i partecipanti a partire del materiale fornito in aula.”

G. MAZZA: Il concetto d’incarnazione nell’ultimo secolo

Attraverso il confronto con alcuni autori contemporanei, spaziando dall’estetica di Steiner alla fenomenologia del corpo e della carne di Henri, Marion e Deleuze, l’incontro vorrebbe cogliere nell’umanità di Dio il criterio normativo di un pensiero teologico che riconosce nell’incarnazione lo “scandalo” paradossale della propria verità.

A. GRILLO: Diversi modelli di teologia della rivelazione: “teoria della complessità” e “primato della pastorale”.

La riflessione sulla categoria di “rivelazione” ha trovato di recente due interpreti (A. Dulles e G. Lindbeck) che ne hanno presentato una “teoria per modelli”. L’esame di questi testi, in relazione al dibattito del XX secolo, permetterà di trovare un raccordo interessante tra la “teoria della complessità” e la sua “variante” cattolica recente, ossia il “primato dell’approccio pastorale”.

Ph. NOUZILLE: ragione e teologia

Il rapporto tra teologia e ragione è diventato un problema classico e molte volte ha generato tensioni e rapporti difficili. L’esame di diverse figure filosofiche contemporanee ci permette individuare tre modelli nel rapporto filosofia-teologia: uno fenomenologico, un altro decostruttivo e un terzo analitico.

Una Lectio Divina Musicale meditazioni d’Avvento su canto gregoriano

Un occasione unica per andare dritti al cuore della musica, meditandola, a partire dalle parole che l’hanno ispirata.

“Lectio divina” indica un avvicinamento spirituale al testo, biblico in particolare. Nell’ambito dei concerti che presenteremo esso verrà esplorato per via della musica.

Proporremo un tema di grande attualità, in sintonia con il periodo liturgico d’Avvento: l’Attesa.

This program is designed for monks, nuns and lay people in positions of leadership or management in monastic communities worldwide:

• abbots and abbesses
• priors and prioresses
• sub-priors and sub-prioresses
• procurators
• cellerars and bursars
• monks and nuns running activities, institutions (schools, hospitals etc…) or in any position requiring managerial competences

To enroll in this program candidates are required to possess:

• some experience in a position of responsibility
• a recognized degree or a form of professional qualification
• sufficient working knowledge of English.
